Monday 5th July 2021

We arrived safely in Brockenhurst to sunshine! We have been for a woodland walk and are now settling in to our poppy pods and playing games before dinner.

Tuesday 6th July 2021

After a wet and windy night, we have started our morning with a fantastic breakfast of cereal, toast, sausages, bacon, beans and scrambled egg.

The weather is holding at the moment and we are enjoying activities such as climbing and problem solving. 

The children are having a great time and are doing us proud!

Wednesday 7th July

Good morning from Tile Barn! The children had a great nights sleep - they were all exhausted after such a busy day of activities! Fingers crossed the sun comes out soon and our cooked breakfast wakes everybody up to get started on today’s fun!

The children are doing you all proud with their behaviour and determination!

 

 

Thursday 8th July

Good morning everyone! We have forty-four very tired children this morning after all the football excitement of last night! Luckily.......

Tuesday 8th June.

How is it the second Summer term already? The final term for our Year 6 at Roman Way!

We have a very exciting, if not the most exciting, term planned and everybody is looking forward to it. 

 

We are reading 'Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief' by Rick Riordan for our end of the day story as the children enjoyed Maz Evans' 'Who Let the Gods Out?' book so much. 

 

Our termly project question is: "What's it like to be a superstar?". Linking to this, the children will be writing balanced arguments in English about if celebrities deserve privacy or not. The homework about the children's favourite celebrities has been very interesting and will link in well to our learning. 

In Maths, we will be looking at all the areas that need more practice like fractions, ratio and proportion to make sure that we have a good base to move on to secondary school with. 

In computing, we are currently busy making quizzes which will be added to the website when they are finished so stay tuned!

 

Our residential is nearly here too - fingers crossed that the weather stays nice. Year 6 will have their own opportunities to experience fame when they become actors and actresses for our Year 6 play which should be interesting! We will have to think about props and costumes too so it will be a busy couple of weeks of preparation!

Friday 5th March

Today is our final day of remote learning and we cannot wait to see you all back in school on Monday. 

We will be kick starting the 8th March off with 'Spooky Week' which will follow on nicely from the writing you have been doing on 'Francis' by Dave Eggers. Our topic for the rest of the term will then be 'Harry Potter' which I know a lot of you are extremely excited about... So am I!

Tuesday 5th January

As of tomorrow, Year 6 will be following the timetable below for their remote lessons. Where it says 'live', these will be live lessons taught via Google Meet to support children's learning in the best way we can. Please read the remote learning agreement with your child today to remind them of the expectations.

This afternoon, please ensure your child has practised logging in to Google Classrooms. All children have their log in and have done this at school, however please ring school and ask to speak to Miss Candy or Miss Evans if they are experiencing difficulties. 

 

Good Morning Year Six. 
We are absolutely devastated to not be seeing you all today after yesterday’s announcement. We are in school today getting everything ready and with some children who need to be in. Your work for today is on the Year Six class web page below. You also still have the work from Christmas to be completing. 
Your packs are ready to be collected at school at 9.15 today which contain books and stationery and a few activities for you.
Please log into and check in on our Google Classroom pages as we will keep you updated there throughout today on how we will progress from tomorrow with online learning on the Google Classroom Platform.

Hello and welcome to the Year 6 webpage,

 

Happy New Year! What a strange year it has been - fingers crossed for a better 2021! Our new learning project will be "The Great Outdoors" and we will be developing our Geography skills. We will be reading some exciting texts and writing for a range of audiences and purposes through different forms. 

 

As always, it's important that children read every day and an adult asks them questions on their book. By doing this it helps to ensure that they are not only developing their fluency in their reading, but also making sure that they have the secure understanding of the text. They must also learn their spellings and times tables. The children have been using Google Classrooms in school in preparation for if they need to use this to undertake any learning at home. If your child is isolating at the moment I have attached tasks they could complete at home below as we are learning to use Google Classrooms and some may not have been in school for the sessions.

 

If your child is in school as normal or unwell at home, they do not need to complete the tasks online - they are only for if anyone is isolating at home and feels well enough to complete the work.

 

Our P.E. day is Tuesday and children need to come into school wearing their P.E. kit. This will also be the case if we have Forest School.

Home learning w.c. 9th November - English

In school this week, we have used Monday and Tuesday to complete our explanation texts on how chocolate is made. 

On Wednesday, we will begin to use 'Bitter Chocolate' by Sally Grindley to help us in our reading and writing in English. There is a copy on the ePlatform but unfortunately, it is currently being loaned out. We will provide the sections of text you will need to be able to complete the activities.

 

Home learning w.c. 9th November - English

The children in school have been writing their explanation texts about the steps in the chocolate making process. If your child is at home and isolating, they can research and write their own explanation text about this. Remind them to use joined up handwriting as well as checking that it makes sense and all spellings and punctuation are correct.

Home Learning w.c. 9th November - Maths

In class last week, we spent the week ensuring we understood how to find factors of multiples and how to convert between mixed numbers and improper fractions. This week, we will look at the equivalent fractions, decimals and percentages.

If you are working from home, please ensure you understand all of the work set last week and go back over any of the sheets you feel you needed more practice on or didn't get chance to finish.

If you need more, please ring school and let Miss Candy know so she can add more activities.

Those of you who have been in school know that we've been looking at the picture book: Varmints (part one).

We have also been watching the animation and a link for this will be below.

 

After having written diary entries before and after the arrival of the 'varmints', this week if you are working at home, I would like you watch the rest of the animation and use it to complete the following:

 

- Write a  diary entry from the point of view of the varmint coming in and creating your wonderful city.

- Compare the varmints to the creatures - notice their similarities and differences.

- Plan and write what you would expect to happen in the next chapter (part two). Would it be a new story which follows the same pattern but with different creatures and varmints? Maybe part two would begin at the beach or on the top of a mountain, or even another planet... Or perhaps something goes wrong if you are following on from the original story and you want to write what happens next to the varmints and creatures? It's up to you!
