Meet the Teacher Video

Still image for this video

As part of our Black History study last week we looked at and learned about key black figures through British and International history. We spent time thinking about, understanding and learning about the Black Lives Matter movement and why it has become something we're all aware of in 2020.

We have had some amazing conversations as a class and have asked and answered a great many questions to extend our knowledge on the topics, we have all learned that Black Lives Matter and that we are a generation that can bring about change to our society, our country and the world.

We learned about the American Artist Alma Thomas and looked at her famous piece of artwork called Earth Sermon: Beauty, Love & Peace. We discussed how the colours show everyone united across the world through beauty, peace and love. We then designed our own Alma Thomas inspired artwork with silhouettes of famous black individuals; Martin Luther King Jr, Rosa Parks, Michelle Obama, Nelson Mandela, George Floyd and more. Finally we wrote our own Black Lives Matter inspired quote to add to our artwork.

Have a look at our art gallery below to see our end products.
