Welcome back, Year 5! We hope you had a fun and relaxing summer break and are ready for the excitement of a new school year.
Our topic this half term is 'To infinity and beyond!' and we will be focusing on the key question - could we survive on another planet? We will be learning all about the solar system, planets and other aspects of space exploration. We're lucky enough to have our topic enhanced by a trip the Winchester Science Museum on Wednesday 18th September where we will be taking part in workshops, exploration the museum exhibitions and visiting the Planetarium to take a once in a life time journey through our solar system! Can't wait!
English this half term is inspired by the space race conspiracy where we'll be questioning whether mankind has even stepped foot on the moon or not and using our findings to write a newspaper report. We will also write a diary entry from the point of view of Neil Armstrong where we'll be writing emotive descriptions of his journey to the moon. Following that, we'll be exploring the planets of our solar system and using our newfound facts to write non-chronological reports.
In Maths, we'll be beginning Year 5 with some revision of place value and the four operations.
Please keep reading daily and practicing the spellings that come home - we have a spelling test every Monday and the words can be found on the Home Learning Sheet.
We have PE on a Monday and Wednesday. Please remember to bring kit to school on those days.
Club day is Thursday.
Any questions or concerns, please come and see us!
Mrs White and Miss Candy.
