Maths 

Maths in early years focuses on supporting the children's understanding of numbers, shapes and measurements. 

Children will begin to develop their number skills through number recognition, counting and calculation. The children will begin to understand different number patterns which will support their early maths skills. The children will also gain an understanding of shapes, measurements (size, weight, height, distance) time and money. 

We use lots of songs in the classroom to support the children's counting. It is important that the children are counting everyday to support their knowledge and understanding of numbers and number patterns. 

Number Formation

We also support the children's number formation, ensuring they are formed correctly and facing the right way. A fun way to practice numbers can be using a whiteboard, coloured pens on paper or using your arms to trace the numbers in the air!
