Roma's topics may vary slightly throughout the year, depending on the children's interests and how much they enjoy particular topics.

The topics we have covered so far this year are; All About Me, Autumn, Christmas, Under the Sea, Pirates, Space and Aliens and Superheroes.

Our current topic is growing and plants.

After half term, we are planning to move onto dinosaurs and then animals.

Forest School

Roma have really enjoyed our first few Forest School sessions! On days when Roma Class have Forest School, please send your children into school with scruffy clothes and wellies (if your child leaves their wellies at school then we will make sure that they use these).  The school provides waterproof trousers and coats as well as fleece jumpers for when it is very cold. The children will wear these waterproofs over their scruffy clothes.

Our next Forest School session is on Monday 8th May.

In Class

This week, Roma have had great fun doing some planting. We have planted our runner beans, sweet corn and sweat peas outside, we have also all planted sunflower seeds. We have had a go at labelling the different parts of a plant and have started our sunflower diaries. Roma Class also created some beautiful sunflower pictures which we will be putting up in the classroom. We looked very closely at some sunflowers, thought about the colours and the shapes that we could see and then painted them.

Roma had a great first week back at school this week, we started our new topic, 'Growing and Plants'. We began by reading the story Jasper's Beanstalk (a very good story!) and then we read Jack and the beanstalk too. Roma class had a think about the different things that we might find at the top of the beanstalk and then had a go at writing sentences, some of us even had a go at writing a short story about a beanstalk!

This week, something very exciting happened in Roma Class! On Monday morning, we came into school and found some treasure and an eye patch in our classroom. We decided that it must have been left there by a pirate. Later in the week, another strange thing happened, we came in from lunch to find a parrot on Miss Gilbody's chair.

We have loved sharing our pirate knowledge with our friends this week and have also enjoyed thinking about things that we treasure. Today, we had a go at making our very own treasure maps.

This week, we continued with our work on 'Under the Sea', we had a go at ordering the story of The Rainbow Fish, we made some beautiful fish using old CDs and we finished our sewing in fine motor time.

We enjoyed making our part of the Chinese dragon for Chinese New Year day tomorrow (Friday 27th January), Roma had the important job of making the tail of the dragon!

We read 'The Rainbow Fish' this week and we loved it! Roma Class wrote stories about The Rainbow Fish in English, we worked very hard on these and they are amazing! In maths, we had a go at sharing objects (just like the Rainbow Fish shared his scales). Roma have also been making their own beautiful Rainbow fish using paper plates, coloured tissue paper and sparkly paper.

Last week, we read 'Commotion in the Ocean', we enjoyed looking at the different sea creatures and looked at rhyming words. We found lots of rhyming words in 'Commotion in the Ocean' and 'Sharing a Shell'.

Roma Class have been working really hard in their phonics lessons and are all doing amazingly with their reading and writing!
