Welcome back Year 5 and what a brilliant and busy start to the year it has been!
This half term, we have been learning about Earth and Space as our Science topic. We went on a brilliant trip to Winchester Science Museum and watched an amazing Space show in the Planetarium where we were lucky enough to go on a tour of all the planets in our Solar System. Since then, we have been working on creating a Space Tourism travel brochure in English full of facts and persuasive language to encourage future Space enthusiasts to become astronauts.
We are also looking at the Moon and how it changes throughout the month. By looking at the night sky and filling in the 'moon tracking' sheet at home, we should get a full picture of how the moon changes. We will be using this idea to write some beautiful Moon poetry later in the half term.
In Maths, we have been revising our place value knowledge as well as reminding ourselves of the four operations - addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We also practice our times tables every day. We will be moving on to look at fractions, money and time later in the half term.
Our Forest School dates are Friday 5th October and we have PE twice a week on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Please remember to bring kit to school on those days. Club day is Thursday.
Please continue reading daily with your child, as well as practicing times tables and weekly spellings (we have a spelling test every Monday and a times table test every Wednesday!).
Any questions or concerns, please come and see me!
Miss Hine :)
