Year 1 Spring Term 3.4.17
We have had a crazy few weeks in Year 1! This term we have been learning all about different types of flowers and trees. In English we have written some stories based on a book called 'Call Me Gorgeous' as well as writing some fantastic information books about woodland animals. We have enjoyed learning lots about what animals eat and where they live.
We had a superb time celebrating National Science Week. Year 1 enjoyed completing a variety of experiments from dancing raisins to rolling tin cans down a slope. We gathered lots of information and have loved testing out some of our ideas. We capped off the week by dressing up as crazy scientists and it was great fun to see how many lovely costumes there were!
The eggs outside have finally hatched and we have been keeping an eye on the nest to see if we can spot the magical creatures that were inside the eggs. Meanwhile we have been lucky enough to have some chicken eggs in school which hatched last week. On Friday the children were very excited to stroke one of the baby chicks and have enjoyed watching them grow and change each day.
We have also had a very exciting day out to Moors Valley Country Park. The children had a fantastic day playing on the play trail and exploring the woodland area. We will be writing recounts about our trip so we look forward to sharing them soon. If you would like to see some of the mischief we got up to in Moors Valley please have a look at the photos in our school gallery or click on the link ---> Here.
Our topic next term will be all about Toys but in the meantime have a great Easter break!
Year 1 Spring Term 8.3.17
Torino had a super time celebrating World Book Day last week. Thank you so much for all the wonderful costumes- the children looked fantastic and were very excited to spend the day as superheroes. We had a lovely time playing 'musical chairs' with the added twist of when the music stopped, we found a hidden book to share with our friends. You can see some pictures of us enjoying reading by click on the link --> Here
In case you haven't heard there has been some exciting news in Year 1 this week. Our beloved class teddy, Sage, disappeared over the weekend so the children were keen to find him. We organised a class hunt and found Sage guarding some magical eggs outside our classroom! The children have been checking on the magical eggs frequently and something tells me they might be hatching soon...

Year 1 Spring term- 20.1.17
As promised we have now completed our recount writing. Here are just a few examples of the fantastic writing we have been doing. We hope you enjoy it!
First we went to Anton Lakes and it was cold. Next we went to the wooden park and I went on the metal swing. After that we went across the wooden bridge and there was a bubbly waterfall. Finally we went back to school and I felt tired.

Year 1 Spring Term- 19.1.17
This week in Maths Torino have been superstars at finding a quarter. We have used lots of different resources and have been very proud of our work.
In Science we are learning all about the weather and have set up an experiment to see where cress grows better- outside or inside? We will be checking our cress every day to see if it is growing. We were really excited this morning to see that our pot of cress that is outside had completely frozen!
In English we have been writing recounts of our trip to Anton Lakes. We have been trying extremely hard to include time adverbials, adjectives and conjunctions. Once we have written our recounts we will be choosing the best ones to put on our class page for people to read so watch this space...
Year 1 Spring Term- 12.1.17
What a great start to the Spring term! This term our topic is Whatever the Weather and we will be learning all about the seasons and exploring types of weather. We have already started to keep a class weather diary so we can see the weather changing daily.
Year 1 have been on an exciting walk to Anton Lakes where we enjoyed seeing lots of different animals and plants. Thankfully the rain held off and we even got to play in the park. You can find pictures of our lovely morning here.
We have also been creating bug hotels during our Forest Schools sessions to keep the bugs safe in the cold winter weather. We were extremely creative in creating homes for lots of different types of bugs and hope that the bugs like what we have made. You can see photos of us creating our bug hotels here.
Year 1 Andover Day
This term the children will be learning all about Andover. We decided to start things off by spending a whole day creating a model town of Andover using cardboard boxes and our fantastic imagination. We had such a super time and it was a great start to the term!
If you would like to see our town click here for pictures.
Year 1 Superhero Stories
Year 1 have been working so hard writing their superhero stories that we decided to share our writing with the children in Year 2. We really enjoyed our afternoon and the children were very proud of the writing they had produced.

Welcome to Year 1!
The Class Teacher in Torino this year is Miss Sweed and the Teaching Assistant is Mrs Winchcombe.
Our topic this term is 'All About Me' and we will be basing this topic around superheroes. We are very excited for our upcoming superhero day on which the children will be able to dress up as superheroes and complete superhero training. This will help to engage children in their learning as we explore the senses, the body and healthy eating.
